The Commissioner's Report
For the Sunday of Feb. 19th, 2023
This Sunday was the opposite of last Sunday. The skies were clear, and the temperature was a balmy 80 degrees. Medium wind. The format was 3 and 1, minus 5 with the special ball. I am not playing good golf, in fact bad. (Apparently not as bad as WH). The cruisers insisted on a late start and of course the top 5 commissioner came through. We also golfed at Sweetgum, which is a fan favorite. The guys that work at Sweetgum are jackasses. They treat us like 4 year olds.
Anywhoos, D1, Sam, Sue and I managed to scratch out 45 points, thanks to a double birdie on #8. (and a well-placed mulligan). Big Jim, Julie, 2.5 and Deano scored a league high of 54. Jodi, Dennis and Jan came in with a 47. Cruisers KMac, Craig, Charli and Krissy, fighting sea legs, impressively notched a 47 also. Carmen, water volleyballer Dale (who will never read this), Bob and softballer, I got new clubs, still can't golf Wayne, crawled to 42 points. Punxsutawney Phil, Smiling Sue, once leading Debbie and card playing Dave holed 39 points this week.
Andrea and Jon outscored KC and Lonny 26-21. Carmen is up 3-1 in the Captain's Cup.
I took pictures for our new website and they turned out well. The old pictures looked graining. I need to step up my game now that Happy Gilmore is world-wide. A reminder to the ladies to step up their game outfits, since anyone can view our website. www.hgsundaygolf.com
Speaking of clothing, really KC and Andrea? Your team colors, remember those? KC wore the enemy's colors. If she was in East L.A., I'm pretty sure she would have been shanked by a rival gang member. And, wow!, Andrea is still upset at me for not cancelling last week's matches.
I do like how many golfers are wearing Happy Gilmore Attire. I always appreciate Julie bringing the Flag, as many of you do.
I still need to hit up Applebee's or Chili's. Hopefully, we get an up north course soon.
I am hoping everyone from the Happy Gilmore League enters The Village Cup Challenge. I thought of this idea after we began the Clash Sundays. I was able to reserve (for free) Red Fox and Gray Fox for May 13th, 2023. To make it fun, the ladies tee off from the greens and the guys from the golds. A two-person scramble will take the pressure off a golfer like me. I wanted to captain one team, and I needed another captain who can bring in other couples that are not associated with Happy Gilmore. So, I thought of Eric Knuth. He is well connected with other couples who golf (Bourbon boys, Santacon, etc) and he is an organizer like me. As expected, Eric was excited to become a captain and has helped me plan the village cup. More details will emerge. So, if you are available on May 13th, please sign up. It is $10 per golfer. It's going to a fun day.
Come to think about it, when I was in 3rd grade, I organized Olympic style contests during recess. I had ribbons for the winners and everything. We had gymnastics on the money bars, ran sprints, and long distance running. Also, we threw a softball like a shot put and other stuff. Crazy, but true.
