It was make-up day at Gray Fox with the golfers completing the requirements to win a championship. The Snows made a special appearance which is always appreciated. It was a hot and muggy afternoon as the golfers competed for a chance to capture the Happy Gilmore Championship Cup. With only 2 weeks left in the winter season, every point counts. So let's get right to the results.
First off the tee was Charli, Craig, KC and Big Jim. Playing in the 3 and 1, minus 5 format, this rag tag group played well. Charli claimed to hit 8 of 9 greens. KC birdied her hole with the special ball. We know because she repeatedly told the story over and over again at Cody's. Craig helped the team out with consistent play throughout the 9 holes. Big Jim was his normal self, setting the pace while hitting 8 greens. This team netted a whopping 49. This put Big Jim in the lead for the championship.
Next up was the 2 person scramble format with Mark F and Jill playing with Pam and Harry. Not sure exactly how they did, since only Jill attended the social at Cody's. Jill stated she played great, carrying Mark once again. Gray Fox isn't an easy course, yet these two teams made this course their bitch. Mark and Jill scored a 26, while Pam (who claimed she played better than 2 weeks ago at the CLASH) (which wouldn't be a stretch) and hungover Harry scored a meager 20.
The third group off the tee, playing in the Pick Your Poison format, were the slapped together group of Mark M, Bob, Carmen and recently retired, Jon. Hoping for a gigantic score to boost their championship potential. this team took many chances from the black tees, (or so I assume). Needing a big score is just what they accomplished with a 58. This put all 4 golfers high up on the leaderboard. Very productive day. Jon, playing from the greens (apparently from now on, now that he is retired) missed a hole-in-one by an inch.
The 4th group consisting of Phil, Sue, Andrea and Wayne played in the easy 4 person scramble. Being the loudest group on the course for getting 4 birdies had them all in a good mood. So many birdies, they drank all their birdie juice. (hence, the picture above). Andrea and Wayne had a natural birdie each. On hole #7, none of them hit the green and they needed Andrea to use a mulligan to sink a par. This netted the team a 34. Good Job. All attended Cody's. The teammates supported one another throughout the round.
Speaking of supporting your teammates, the group of #5, Dean and Julie played the 4 person scramble format also. Unlike the 4th group, the support was a little different. On #8, #5 teed off first and hit the green in the air and the ball nestled 14 inches from the hole. Teammate Dean stated, "Oh, you miss hit that and got really lucky". Julie then put her shot into the weeds never to be scene again. Dean hit a beautiful shot on the 110 yard par 3 using a 9 iron, approximately 40 yards. So, only 70 yards short. Julie advised #5 to take his time as he putted for birdie. He sunk the putt. Supportive teammate, Julie, shrieks, "Oh you almost fucking missed it!" 5 points for the team by #5, but I miss hit accordingly to Dean and almost missed the birdie putt as Julie reminded me. This support group scored a 33.
Last teams to go off was Lonny and Michelle playing with Mira and Craig Snow. Both playing in the 2 person scramble format. I saw Mira hit the green on #9 and was excited to celebrate with her by sharing a "combo" platter at Cody's but she didn't show up. No points were deducted for the slow play of the group. We did witness Lonny birdie #8. It was nice to have the Snows join us. Hopefully, we see more of them. Craig did have a birdie on #5, landing 6 inches from the cup. Both teams scored 26 points. See you next week.
