Down The Drain, Almost

A recap of Happy Gilmore week ending March 26th, 2023

Another beautiful day in The Villages for a golf afternoon with good friends. This week featured the ever popular, Pick Your Poison format. This week we played at Sarasota. Don't forget to check out the newly released, "Water volleyball in the Villages, with Deb and Dave" on the Youtube channel, Lanai Gossip. Excellent programming. Don't forget to subscribe.

Let's get to the recap. Coming in with an astonishing score of 63, in which, Lonny had no idea how to keep score, but somehow chicken scratched his team to the 63. The team of Lonny, Mira, Sue B and Sam will be wearing yellow next week. Getting a 63 was almost impossible after Lonny launched his tee shot on #2 into the golf cart tunnel. (a 90 degree shot, mind you). Luckily, no one was injured from the wayward shot. But, his team pulled together to finish strong on the final 7 holes. As always, Mira, Sue B and Sam B played well. Mira purchased the sample platter again at Beef O'Brady's, so there was that. They parred hole #9.

Coming in a close second was the tripod trio of Julie, Big Jim and Jill. We tried to give them a ringer, but they booted him off their team. (Poor lonely guy). Anyway, the trio overcame the adversity and posted a score of 62. Sarasota was a course Big Jim could hit from the Black tees along with his two blonde comrades, Julie and Jill. The three "J's" took advantage of the course and format as they hit several greens from the Black and Gold tees. Limping in on number 9, the J's parred.

Coming in a distant third with a throw away score of 51 was team D1, #5, Dale and 2.5. We just weren't consistent today. On holes #1, 5 and 6 we scored 28 points. The other 6 holes we scored a mere 23. Weak. Nicole had a good idea. Since we introduced the "unknown golfer" this week, we find a scratch golfer to just happen to be our 4th golfer next pick your poison. I like how she thinks. Dale landed on the green from the Black tees twice. We were just too inconsistent. And to end the round, we bogeyed the last hole.

Coming in dead last was the team of Wayne, KC, Bobby and Andrea with a 49. But they didn't care as KC buried a putt from off the green to birdie the hole. $20 skins!!! Two weeks in a row for Bobby and KC to win skins. Wayne and Andrea, wearing yellow from last week's high score, quietly got in their golf cart and slithered to Beef O'Brady's. What a difference a week makes. I've been there. Andrea was overheard mumbling, "At least that vindictive Carmen didn't make me play scotch doubles this week."

In the Captain's Cup challenge, it was Carmen's Crushers, Kim Ross and Harry verses Dodi's Destroyers of Krissy and Dean. It was Sarasota so high scores were the norm. Harry hit a 50-foot putt for a birdie and that was the difference. Kim and Harry beat Krissy and Dean, 23 to 20. Very close contest. This victory has Carmen's Crushers up 7-1 on Dodi's Destroyers. They parred the 9th hole.

Last, but not least, Charli and Craig played a 2 person scramble. This was due to the lack of participants this week. both Charli and Craig needed to make up a 2 person scramble, so this helped them make the requirements for winning the championship. They must have played well because they scored 26 points. With the help of shankapotomus, Lonny and Mira, they parred hole 9.

We did say good-bye to Sam and Sue Barnes today. They are headed back to Iowa for the summer. They will be back for the winter season. Or, more accurately, they will apply to be accepted into the winter season. Everyone headed to Beef O'Brady's afterwards. Good Times.

Next week is the famous, round 3 of the CLASH. Everyone is looking forward to next Sunday.

Enjoy.
